In Lesson 3 and 4 students embarked on an exciting and educational journey to understand the impact of oil spills and the importance of environmental protection. The lesson began with an engaging hands-on activity where students designed and constructed their own oil-proof protective clothing using simple materials like trash bags. This creative exercise not only sparked their imagination but also emphasized the importance of protective gear in real-world scenarios.

Once the students were suited up in their makeshift protective clothing, we simulated an oil spill by pouring a mixture of black paint and vegetable oil into a model ocean, complete with islands that the children had crafted earlier. This visual and tactile representation of an oil spill brought the environmental issue to life, making it more relatable and urgent for the young learners.

This month's STEAM topic was all about the environment! We learned about oil and how dangerous oil spills can be. We discussed the damage they can cause to the environment and the ocean. Students used computers and YouTube to find videos to answer the question: How does an oil spill affect the environment? We watched some videos together and had a lively discussion!

After this, I told students that they would build their own island paradise model! We then got to work planning and researching how to build a model island.

The students chose the resources for the next week. They asked for sand, rocks, glue, sticks, paper, and paint.

During the second week, we built our islands in a large tray! They had so much fun mixing sand with glue and decorating their islands. They added trees, houses, and Minecraft decorations. The islands turned out beautifully. Let's hope they remain free from oil spills!
